Before 2009 Maryland was one of four states, and the only state on the East Coast, that did not require documented proof of lawful presence for an applicant to be issued a Maryland driver's license or ID card. .
Now, thanks to Maryland Governor O'Malley's support and state legislators pushing hard for reform, Maryland requires documented proof of lawful presence.
O'Malley Sees the Light, published in the Washington Times (3-18-09), compliments Governor O'Malley for supporting proof of lawful presence requirements for all driver's license applicants and making Maryland streets more secure for law enforcement and Maryland citizens.
