Petition for Public Law 109-13 Enforcement

I support compliance with the Public Law 109-13 regulatory requirements because I believe that driver's license security is a critical element essential to both border security and national security!

Whereas, stronger driver's license and identity document security will help protect Americans from foreign criminals and terrorists; and

Whereas, it is still too easy for criminals and terrorists, both domestic and foreign, to obtain valid driver's licenses and identification (ID) cards through fraud or weak state application practices; and,

Whereas, Congress in 2005, through Public Law 109-13, directed the Department of Homeland Security to establish and enforce federal guidelines for higher security for driver's licenses and ID cards issued by the states; and,

Whereas, fewer than half of the states have undertaken the needed corrective actions;

Therefore, to protect and defend America, I, as a voter and a legal resident urge you to work more actively with the laggard states toward strengthening their processes to meet federal driver's license standards by the January 15, 2013 deadline.
